Selection is the process of examining a group of similar or related items or products to find the one(s) that best meet an individual's specific requirements. Often, no one product will meet all of the customer's requests. The process of selecting the "best" one is based on considering how well each item meets the various requirements, weighting the importance of the requirements and finding the best overall recommendation. The system user is then presented with the best choices, and an explanation of how they meet, or do not meet, their specific requirements. |

| Exsys Selector RuleBook systems allow top-level product recommendation expert knowledge to be directly delivered to the customer via the Web. The system will recommend the best products for the customer's requirements using a conversational interface that emulates the interaction the customer would have with an expert salesperson. The system asks the user questions about their requirements and use of the product. Based on this input, logic in the system, and product data maintained in a spreadsheet, each product is "scored" and sorted to find the best ones for the customer. Each selected product can be displayed with a detailed customized report on how it matches the customer's individual requirements. The customer is given accurate and specific recommendations that they can act on immediately.
Multiple criteria are used to consider various aspects of how well the product matches the customer's needs. The various criteria can be weighted to give more importance to key factors. The ranking in each criteria is done using a simple matrix that compares possible product attributes with possible user needs. Since each criteria is considered independently, the decision-making process of even large complex selections can be easily handled. In addition to ranking the products, the matrices also allow adding comments to be used in certain situations. This makes it easy to build detailed customer specific reports on each product.
